Most people associate circus with the small travelling circuses that move from place to place and bring happiness for the small kids. That’s of course natural association because each of us enjoyed these lovely performances during the childhood. What people often don’t realize, is that this is only small part of the circus world.
Those that had a chance to visit the Capital Circus of Budapest, Circus Krone in Munich or any of the big circus performances around the world, will tell you that the circus is a show. A show so great that brings joy for both children and adults. Each circus program is unique and the more different shows you see, the more you are falling in love in this piece of art.
My wife is a teacher and while living in Budapest, she encouraged me several times to visit the performances of the Budapest circus. I always declined politely with the argument that circus is for kids until one Christmas eve, when I received a gift from her father – he bought us tickets for the Budapest Circus Festival that takes place every 2 years.
I went to the performance and I was amazed. This was not only better than any travelling circus I visited as a child, but was better than any circus performance I saw on the TV. It was a world class performance. This gift opened my eyes for a whole new world of entertainment and since that day, I visited every new program of the Budapest circus. Even after we moved abroad, I am still visiting the circus every time we go to Budapest.
Now, when we have kids, we are rarely missing opportunities to visit circus performances. No matter if it is a big circus show with world class stars or a tiny travelling circus managed by a small circus family, all of them have their charm and spirit that entertain and bring joy.
If you haven’t been to a circus soon, we recommend you to look around for one of these colorful posters and find a performance near you.
If you don’t find one, you may consider visiting Budapest 🙂 We have a few sightseeing tips that will help you.
